Kirana Gharana

History and Legacy

Gharanas of Indian classical music are traditions and repositories of knowledge and artistry passed down through generations. Each gharaana has its own distinct style. Ustad Abdul Karim Khan popularized the Kirana style that emphasized the use of meend, intricate taans, and a deep emotional connection to the raga. With the introduction of the concept of "bhava", he emphasized that music should evoke deep feelings and emotions in both the performer and the listener, transcending the boundaries of technique to touch the very essence of the human experience. Pt. Bhimsen Joshi, the legendary Kirana Gharana maestro spread the Kirana Gharaana's influence all over the world.

As a musician deeply rooted in the Kirana Gharana tradition, discussing my gharana is more than just talking about a musical lineage; it's a reflection of my identity, my journey, and my passion for music. My journey as a musician has been shaped by the guidance and teachings of my gurus, who imparted to me the invaluable knowledge and wisdom of the Kirana Gharana.
