People all around the world love Indian music. But sometimes, it's hard to find the right teachers or groups if you live far away. I've met many music fans and experts from different places while teaching Hindustani singing. Even though it may seem tricky, with a bit of effort and the right help, you can learn Indian classical music no matter where you are.

Finding Indian Music Teachers

Finding Indian Music TeachersStart by looking for Indian music teachers in your town or nearby cities. You can search online or ask at local cultural groups. When you find a teacher, make sure their style matches what you want to learn.

Look around in the Facebook or whatsapp groups that sound like Indians in <CITY>. There are experts and coaches almost everywhere.

Find Free Resources

If you can't find a teacher nearby, don't worry! There are lots of free lessons and videos online. Just be careful to learn the right way, as bad habits can be hard to fix. It's good to mix online learning with some guidance from a real teacher now and then.

Join Online Class

Every year, I work with 10-12 new students from the US, Europe, and Australia, who are enthusiastic about delving into the world of Indian classical music. In my experience, conducting one-on-one classes is the very important. Each individual possesses unique talents and challenges, especially when it comes to their voice. A seasoned teacher with ample experience in online instruction can effectively guide students, ensuring they achieve the same level of growth and proficiency as those learning through traditional methods.

How the Get the Best Out of Online Class

When you are living abroad, it is easy to get distracted or find changes of routines that may take your focus away. It is better to define a fixed schedule with the help of your teacher. Discuss how many days per week or month work for you. You may need to find a time that does not make it difficult for you or your teacher to stick to everyday.

If you are absolute beginner, it takes a few weeks to start noticing changes after which your rate of learning and having confidence in your voice will grow exponentially. Make sure you set clear goals and milestones with your teacher. If possible, discuss intermediate outcomes, like performing in front of a small group of audience or participating in a social event.

Do not worry about your current level.

Half of my students are 25 years and older who have never received training before. I believe that anyone can learn. Teachers are willing to help you level up regardless of where you stand right now.

Make up your mind, and get started.

Once you set up a goal, trust the process - Ho Jayega!
